Icon Women’s latest strategic partnership is with Platform 51, formerly YWCA. A national organisation that supports girls and women of any age or background in England and Wales who need them. Icon Women are looking to support the work of Platform 51 by raising awareness of the work the organisation carries out as well as supporting clients looking to start up in business.
Our partnership starts with an inspiring lunch event on Thursday, 23rd June, with Penny Newman – CEO of Platform 51 who has built her career relieving social injustice in a way that builds organisations sustainably. Until recently Penny was the CEO of the Jamie Oliver Foundation, responsible for business growth, development and increasing the social activities and support to vulnerable young people through the restaurant chain Fifteen. Prior to that she was the CEO of Cafedirect: the UK’s largest 100% fairtrade hot drinks company and the UK’s sixth largest coffee brand. Penny has also worked for the Body Shop and was recently awarded an OBE for her services to ethical business in 2008.
The event will be hosted by Platform 51 (Venue TBC) and is expected to be very popular, please be sure to save the date and visit the website for more information in the coming days.
I am interesting in the Platform 51 event, we are great supporters of this charity and have seen what good work they do, helping women in very challenging circumstances. What date is this event being held?
Hi Rachel
The event takes place on the 23rd June. Our venue will be announced in the next few days. We completely agree with you about the amazing work that Platform 51 carry out and have found ourselves looking to create strong partnership links with them. I think the added interest too will be Penny’s story – I hear that she has a very focused business approach to the organisations she works with which I know I will learn from. Should be interesting. Look forward to seeing you there! Emily
